Robert L. Bamdas is a Partner in the firm’s West Palm Beach office, focusing his practice on the defense of claims arising under the Defense Base Act (DBA), Longshore and Harbor Act, Section 905(b) and the Jones Act. Additionally, Robert specializes in General Maritime Law and Maritime Subrogation matters, War Hazards and Special Fund Reimbursement, Foreign Voluntary Insurance issues and complex marine and international coverage issues. Robert also has expertise in the area of catastrophic injury claims and occupational exposure/disease cases.
Robert is a frequent speaker and educator on the Longshore and Defense Base Acts. Since 2003, he has participated annually as a speaker for The Longshore Breakout at the FWCI Annual Workers’ Compensation Education Conference. Robert’s speaking highlights include: Longshore Act and Interplay with Other Acts (2007 Longshore Conference held by Loyola University’s New Orleans School of Law and the U.S. Department of Labor) and Determining Impairment Under the Act (2011 Longshore Conference). He is a Florida Certified Educator and presents the Adjuster Board Certification course entitled “Other Jurisdictions” regarding Longshore, DBA, and the Jones Act, several times each year.
Robert received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and earned his law degree cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law. Robert is an “AV” rated attorney, a prestigious honor that identifies a lawyer with very high preeminent legal ability and is a reflection upon the lawyer's experience, expertise, integrity and overall professional excellence.
He is a member of the Florida Bar Workers’ Compensation Section and has served on its Rules Committee. He is also a member of the DOL Joint Bar Association. Robert serves on the board of the 440 Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization that gives educational stipends to children of injured workers and employees who work in the workers compensation system. Robert is licensed to practice law in Florida and Washington D.C. and is admitted into the U.S. Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit and the U.S. District for the Southern District of Florida.
