Growing Up in Two Different Cultures

Video Transcript

So, my parents were born and raised in Turkey, in a little remote area close to the Syrian borders, and as Christians they were never able to live out their Christianity and their beliefs, as well as the language that they were speaking, Aramaic. When we grew up, we were not allowed to speak German at home because my parents, they were very keen for us to learn to speak the language that Jesus Christ spoke, Aramaic. So, that’s why we are all fluent in it. And the German, we learned in school and interacting with friends.

So, for me, looking back, it helps me now to understand people from different cultures and different backgrounds, because when you are a small child growing up in two complete different cultures and learn two complete different languages you become keen in like honing into people that are different than you are and trying to understand them.
