Could your job increase the chances of a divorce?
Are you and your spouse at odds over your job? You may have not considered the effect that your choice of industries could have on your marriage when you entered the field. In fact, you might not even have been married yet.
But now you are, and there is no doubt that some professions can lead to an uptick in marital problems. So, does your career increase your risk of getting divorced?
Some careers are inherently stressful
When you think of jobs that are stressful and which can play havoc on your marriage, what comes to mind? Some, like law enforcement and truck drivers, may immediately occur to you.
And while there’s no doubt that those two are indeed among the top professions that can be hard on a marriage, so are some that first appear less obvious, like professional dancers.
What makes less obvious jobs hard on marriages?
Dancing and choreography are very physical jobs. They require close physical contact with other dancers who are usually in peak physical condition. Rehearsals can run late, and suspicions can arise due to the dedication of the dancer spouse to their craft.
The marriages of couples in the medical field, too, can be rife with marital strife. Rotating shifts and 12-hour days can erode even the best marriages over time. Setting aside time for designated date nights can help couples stay connected.
Telemarketers’ marriages also face risk
What could be so divorce-inducing about telemarketing positions? Well, just imagine how it feels to get yelled at and hung up on for eight hours every day. Add to that that many telemarketers work from home and can experience burn out just from being in the same environment 24/7.
The truth is that anyone in any profession may get divorced. The takeaway is to prepare yourself for what lies ahead when filing or responding to a Florida divorce petition.
