Tennis is important to me because it was important to my father.
[GENTLE MUSIC]
He grew up playing tennis. And I think I was supposed to be a boy. So, when I came along, we had matching sweat suits. And I was fortunate enough to play in junior tennis and to play in college. It taught me so many life lessons on and off the court, because you’re out there by yourself. You’re having to make fair line calls. You’re going to win and lose all the time. And so, it again taught me that don’t get too excited about the highs and don’t get too upset about the lows.
It teaches you hard work. My coach always used to say to me when I wasn’t practicing my next opponent was. And certainly, that transfers into your work life. And so now I’m giving back in a volunteer way, because I feel like the game’s given so much to me and my family, that it’s time for me to give back to the game.
