About the Rankings 

The 2027 Best Law Firms rankings draw on 30 million evaluations of more than 134,000 leading lawyers at more than 25,000 firms. The research covers 188 regional areas across the United States, with 127 practice areas ranked at the metropolitan level and 75 nationally. 

Clients and professional references evaluate firms on experience, responsiveness, understanding of a client’s business and needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client. Lawyers also assess competitors in their own fields, including whether they would refer a matter to a firm and whether they consider it a worthy competitor. Those findings produce an overall score that places each firm in a tier against others in its region. 

A firm becomes eligible when at least one of its lawyers is recognized in the current edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in a ranked practice area and jurisdiction. The 2027 edition of that list is the most selective in its 33-year history and represents the top 5% of practicing attorneys in the U.S. market.
