Overview

Kiyra Ellis is an attorney at Kelley Kronenberg, focusing her practice on first-party property insurance defense.

Prior to joining Kelley Kronenberg, Kiyra served as a Felony Assistant Public Defender for the Office of the Public Defender in the Ninth Judicial Circuit, where she provided representation to clients facing felony criminal prosecution and conducted five criminal trials, including two as first chair. Her experience also includes serving as a legal intern for the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund, where she worked on litigation projects with a focus on special education law, and as an intern with the Environmental Justice Clinic, where she advocated for marginalized communities by addressing systemic inequality and promoting policy solutions for structural change.

Kiyra graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, where she served as Vice President of FIU College of Democrats, and was recognized with honors including Phi Delta Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Pi Sigma Alpha. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, where she received the Honorable Theodore Klein Endowed Memorial Scholarship and Dean’s Merit Scholarship, served as Junior Editor for the University of Miami Race and Social Justice Law Review, and held leadership positions in the Student Bar Association as Vice Speaker of the House and Senator.

Kiyra has published “The Forgotten Activists: Black People in the Disability Rights Movement” in the University of Miami Race & Social Justice Law Review. Her extensive leadership experience and commitment to social justice issues demonstrate her dedication to advocacy and community service.
