Michelle Ortiz

Michelle Ortiz Is a Partner and Business Unit Leader at Kelley Kronenberg. She focuses her practice on all aspects of first-party property insurance defense, including bad faith and SIU investigations.   

Michelle has nearly two decades of legal experience that extends across several practice areas, including experience as in-house counsel for a large insurance company (e.g., defense of homeowner’s insurance carriers, automobile insurance carriers, physicians, and business owners). In addition, Michelle has performed substantial work in complex matrimonial law. Michelle has dedicated a significant part of her career to representing victims of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in Family court under VAWA. She has conducted over 150 bench trials in this area and has been a guest speaker before judges and attorneys.   

Her comprehensive expertise and seasoned background make her a proficient and assertive litigator. Her strategic and methodical approach to litigation has consistently delivered a track record of successful outcomes for our clients.   

Before rejoining the firm, Michelle was Managing Partner of a boutique practice group in Miami, Florida. In this role, she executed the firm’s day-to-day operations and formulated trial and general litigation strategies. While at the firm, Michelle participated in several trials that had positive outcomes for her clients. Michelle has also presented as a guest speaker about trial techniques and the importance of demonstratives and technology.    

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida International University and earned her Juris Doctorate in 2004 from St. Thomas University Law School, where she graduated Cum Laude. During her time there, she served as part of the School’s International Moot Court team and won the school’s International Moot Court competition.
