Attorney Spotlight: Gary L. Brown

Building on 30 Years of Construction Expertise with Mediation Services

With nearly three decades of representing construction clients in complex disputes, Gary Brown is expanding his practice as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator specializing in construction-related matters.

“I’ve spent my career seeing construction disputes from every angle,” says Gary. “I’m now bringing that perspective to the mediation table to help parties find common ground and resolve issues without the costs and delays of litigation, while continuing to represent clients in construction matters.”

As Chair of Kelley Kronenberg’s Construction Law Division and a Florida Bar Board Certified Construction Law attorney, Gary brings unparalleled industry knowledge to the mediation table. His decades of experience representing owners, developers, general contractors, and subcontractors gives him unique insight into the priorities and concerns of all parties involved.

“Construction disputes are often multi-layered,” Gary explains. “Having worked with clients on everything from change order disputes to complex construction defect claims, I understand the technical aspects as well as the business realities that drive these conflicts.”

Gary’s mediation approach is informed by his ongoing litigation practice, where he has successfully handled multimillion-dollar construction matters before state and federal courts, arbitration tribunals, and administrative boards throughout Florida. This active experience continues to refine his understanding of what works—and what doesn’t—when parties are seeking resolution.

“Effective mediation requires more than just understanding the law,” notes Gary. “It’s about identifying practical solutions that address everyone’s core needs.”

Beyond his mediation practice, Gary continues to represent clients in all aspects of construction law, including complex commercial litigation, construction defect claims, and contract disputes. Additionally, he oversees the firm’s OSHA defense practice and advises clients on regulatory compliance while working with business owners, general contractors, and subcontractors during on-going OSHA investigations.  If an OSHA citation is issued following an investigation, Gary works with OSHA to negotiate the best possible resolution, and if that cannot be achieved, he contests the citation in court where he vigorously defends clients.

Gary’s authority in the field is further evidenced by his book, Florida Construction Defect Litigation, now in its sixth edition, and his position as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, where he has taught an advanced course on construction law.

“Teaching and writing have deepened my understanding of construction law’s nuances,” Gary says. “These perspectives are invaluable when I’m helping parties navigate complex disputes in mediation.”

Throughout his career, Gary has prioritized proactive problem-solving and relationship building. “The best construction professionals know that successful projects depend on collaboration and communication,” he observes. “Successful mediations require the same approach.”

For parties facing construction disputes, Gary’s combination of technical knowledge, industry experience, and mediation skills offers a path to resolution that honors the collaborative spirit at the heart of construction itself.
